Compositieprijsvraag Obe Postma Selskip

Het Obe Postma Selskip is van plan om, ter gelegenheid van haar lustrum, aandacht te besteden aan composities die gemaakt zijn op tekst van de dichter Obe Postma (1868-1963). In verband met het bovenstaande schrijft het bestuur van het Obe Postma Selskip een prijsvraag uit voor nieuwe composities voor koor of solozang, al dan niet met begeleiding, op gedichten van Postma, zoals deze te vinden zijn in de laatste uitgave van zijn Samle Fersen 2005. Wij vragen één of meer werken die maximaal 15 minuten in beslag nemen. Er worden zes werken geselecteerd en genomineerd. Eén compositie wordt aangewezen als de beste. Deze beste compositie zal bekroond en gehonoreerd worden met 1500 Euro. De onafhankelijke jury, die de geanonimiseerde composities beoordeelt, bestaat uit Alex Manassen (voorzitter), Daan Manneke, Wim van Ligtenberg, Oane Reitsma en Johan de With. Het werk dient vóór 1 december 2011 gestuurd te worden aan dhr. Jan Gulmans, secretaris van het Obe Postma Selskip en secretaris van de jury. Calefax compositiewedstrijd

Ook dit najaar organiseert rietkwintet Calefax weer een compositiewedstrijd. Dit jaarlijkse evenement vind plaats onder toeziend oog van Theo Loevendie, die als externe expert de inzendingen mede beoordeelt. De wedstrijd, waarvan de winnaar wordt bekend gemaakt én gespeeld op de PAN op 30 december 2011, heeft dit jaar twee nieuwe elementen. Ten eerste is er een inhoudelijk thema aan de compositie verbonden: Waanzin. Daarnaast is er een nieuwe prijs: een werktraject met Calefax voor één van de inzenders. Het resultaat daarvan wordt gepresenteerd op de volgende Pan. Op deze manier geeft Calefax aan een componist de gelegenheid om zich te verrijken met de kennis die Calefax in 26 jaar heeft opgedaan op het gebied van o.a. instrumentatie. Hieronder de details.
Calefax nodigt componisten uit om een nieuw werk in te sturen voor de jaarlijkse compositiewedstrijd. De compositie heeft een maximale lengte van 5 minuten, geeft op overtuigende en originele wijze inhoud aan het thema 'Waanzin' en moet uitvoerbaar zijn door vijf spelers op de volgende instrumenten:
1 Hobo, althobo of oboe d'amore; 2 Klarinet in Bes of A; 3 Alt- of sopraansaxofoon; 4 Basklarinet, bassethoorn of contrabasklarinet; 5 Fagot.
De winnaar(s) wordt/worden bekend gemaakt op de PAN van vrijdag 30 december 2011, in het Amsterdamse Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ.

De prijzen zijn:
- een live-uitvoering ter plekke door Calefax van de beste compositie;
- een samenwerkingstraject met Calefax (verspreid over het jaar 2012) met de componist die volgens de jury daar het meeste profijt van zal hebben; het eindresultaat van dit traject zal te horen zijn op de PAN 2012. Het is mogelijk dat beide prijzen naar dezelfde persoon gaan.

De deadline voor inzendingen voor Calefax’ jaarlijkse compositiewedstrijd is vrijdag 2 december 2011. Stuur uw compositie op, in uitdrukkelijk zowel partituurvorm (in C) als getransponeerde partijen. Dit kan als PDF via e-mail naar info@calefax.nl, of op papier naar Calefax, Piet Heinkade 5, 1019 BR Amsterdam (poststempel uiterlijk 1 december).
Uw inzending mag niet langer duren dan vijf minuten, en het moet een originele compositie zijn (dus geen bewerking). Per componist mag er slecht één werk worden ingestuurd. De jury bestaat uit de leden van Calefax en voorzitter Theo Loevendie. Over de uitslag wordt niet gecorrespondeerd.
Eerdere winnaars van de Calefax Compositiewedstrijd waren Holger de Bruin (2009, Nederland) en Jeffrey Harrington (2010, Verenigde Staten/Frankrijk).

Dutch Harp Composition Contest 2012

The Dutch Harp Festival organizes a composition contest for composers of all nationalities and ages. Contestants will compose a piece for solo harp. The work, which can be in any form, must last between 5 and 10 minutes. Amongst the prizes are € 3.500 prize money and performances of the three winning works by renowned soloists.

Dates: June 2011 Applications open; 6 September 2011 Composition workshop during the International Gaudeamus Music Week; 15 December 2011 Deadline for applications; 1 February 2012 Announcement of the three winning works; 28 March 2012 Final: premiere of the winning work and award ceremony during the Dutch Harp Festival 2012

Prizes: The three best works will be chosen on 1 February 2012 and performed by top-soloists during the Dutch Harp Festival, on 28 March 2012. The prizes have been determined before the concert (with the exception of the Audience award), but will be announced afterwards during an official award ceremony:

First prize € 2.000; Second prize € 1.000; Third prize € 500

Extra prizes include:

European Choral Association – Europa Cantat (ECA-EC) European Award for Choral Composers (EACC)

REGULATIONS
1. Organization
1.1. The competition for the EACC is held every year and is a continuation of the “Golden Tuning Fork”.Award, started by AGEC in 1988.
1.2. The announcement of the competition will be made by the ECA-EC as well as by the national and regional member federations.
1.3. Choral compositions can only be nominated by a national or regional federation, member of ECAEC, and have to be sent in PDF format to the office of the ECA-EC before March 1, 2012.
1.4. A composition which has received an award in any other competition, may not be submitted. It may, however, have been performed and/or published.
1.5. A composition may not be entered for this competition more than twice.
1.6. The submitted compositions have to be accompanied by the artistic curriculum of the composer, mentioning his or her date of birth and the year when the work was written, and the duration of the piece.
1.7. The office distributes the received scores to the members of the jury anonymously. (ie without the composer’s name, sex, age or nationality)
1.8. The jury examines the scores, taking its decisions before the end of the current year. The results will be communicated immediately to the participating federations.
2. The competitors and their works
2.1. Each composition can be submitted to one of the following three categories: (a) choir a cappella (classical), (b) choir accompanied by up to four instrument (classical), (c) a jazz composition for choir a cappella or accompanied by up to three instruments. All compositions should be able to be performed by good average choirs.
2.2. Up to three works in each category (see point 2.1) can be nominated by the same choral federation, composed by one or different authors within the past five years.
2.3. The choice of the text is free, on the condition that the composer is formally authorized by the author or editor to use this text (if appropriate).
2.4. Every choral formation from three to eight vocal parts is possible (mixed or equal voices).
2.5. The performance time of a composition is limited between minimum three and maximum nine minutes.
3. The jury and the quotation
3.1. The admitted compositions are quoted by a jury of minimum four members, together with the president of the ECA music commission (five members overall), all choral conductors or composers.
3.2 The jury will deliberate and decide amongst themselves, the winner of each category. There will be a winner for each section (a), (b) and (c). The jury reserves the right not to nominate a winner in any of the categories.
3.3. The jury has the right of interpretation of the rules in case of unforeseen elements.
3.4. The decision of the jury is final and cannot be challenged.
4. Awards
4.1. Each awarded work will be performed at least once by the good care of the national of regional federation of its origin and this before the end of the year following the year of awarding.
4.2. By the good care of the ECA-EC each awarded work will be programmed within a reasonable term by the EuroChoir and / or at another choral event organized by ECA-EC or one of its members.
4.3. ECA-EC will use their best endeavours to promote the publication and the spreading of the awarded scores.
5. Acceptance agreement
The board of ECAEC as well as the participating national and regional federations and the participating composers accept the rules of the European Award for Choral Composers as a whole.

The Molinari Quartet's Fifth International Competition for Composition

Deadline:  April 1, 2012

The Molinari Quartet is pleased to announce its Fifth International Competition for Composition for string quartet. Composers are invited to submit an original work for string quartet. The best compositions will be played in concert during the Molinari Quartet's Twentieth and Beyond series to be held in Montreal (Quebec, Canada) during the 2012-2013 season.  The jury will be comprised of the Molinari Quartet's artistic director and its musicians, in addition to well-known Canadian composers Jean Lesage et Nicols Gilbert who will determine four winners. The winning compositions will be performed by the Molinari Quartet during a special concert during the 2012-2013 season. After the concert performance the jury will deliberate and choose the order of the winners. The First Prize winner shall receive a $3000 grant as well as a silkscreen by renowned Canadian artist Guido Molinari. The second prize winner will receive a $2000 grant and the third prize winner a $1000 grant. The jury reserves the right not to grant all three prizes. The winners will be invited to work with the Molinari Quartet prior to the concert and to participate in the Dialogues at the Chapelle, a public workshop of discussions and analysis produced by the Molinari Quartet.

Rules for Eligibility:
· Candidates must be 40 years old or less as of April 1st 2012, the due date for registration.
· The work must not exceed 20 minutes.
· Only works for string quartet that have neither been performed professionnally nor published as of April 1st 2012 shall be accepted.
· Scores must be received by the Molinari Quartet at the latest April 1st 2012. (The postoffice stamp shall be recognized as the receiving date)
· Registration fees of $25 CAN must accompany all scores.
· A candidate may submit more than one work, but each work must be sent separately.
· Parts and scores shall remain the property of the Molinari Quartet. (will not be returned)
· The candidate must send a score as well as separate playing parts to the Molinari Quartet.
· All scores must be sent anonymously; only a pseudonym can appear on the score pages.
· The candidate shall also send a sealed envelope bearing his or her pseudonym which will contain his or her name, postal address, e-mail address, telephone number, birth date, resumé as well as a statement as to the fact that the work is yet unpublished and that it has never been performed.
· The composer whose work has been chosen as one of the winning compositions, will not receive any extra payment for the execution or recording of the work.
· The winners of the competition commit themselves to find the necessary funding for a stay in Montreal to work with the Molinari Quartet and assist to the performance in the 2012-2013 season.

Eerste internationale Alkema Compositie concours 2012

Inzendtermijn sluit op 27 april 2012

Matching Arts organiseert in samenwerking met het Utrechts Conservatorium een compositiewedstrijd voor saxofoon en piano (duur: 6-8 minuten) met een duidelijke cross-over element.  Het competitieconcert vindt plaats op 9 juni 2012 in de Fentener van Vlissingen zaal van het Utrechts Conservatorium. De deelname staat open voor componisten van alle leeftijden en alle nationaliteiten. De winnaars ontvangen een geldprijs en een uitvoering van het werk.
